We’ve had a busy weekend of painting. Call me a weirdo, but I think painting can be kind of therapeutic. We’ll see if I still say that in another week or two.
It was a big debate whether or not to replace the doors in the house, as many of them are damaged. We decided instead to just paint them charcoal gray. I was so excited to finish our first door today!
I shared in this post that we planned to keep the hardware on the doors, but we started to notice a few knobs that weren’t in great shape. I told Trent “You know what would be awesome? Chrome knobs with those square backs on them.”
Kid you not, look what we found at Habitat for Humanity Restore the NEXT DAY…
Brand new Schlage door handles. There were the exact number that I needed for every knob in the house, and they were 75% off retail price. Like seriously?! I immediately thanked Jesus for my shiny gifts.
We’ve made some progress on the master bedroom. Floors and trim are done. Here’s what the master looked like before I scraped the ceilings using Trent’s stupid stilts that he made me wear because we didn’t have a ladder yet.
For the record, the stilts were actually pretty handy 😉
And the progress…
I don’t clean up to take these pictures because I just do not have time you guys. Just pretend all the junk on the floor isn’t there.
Moving on to the master bathroom. I made some major mistakes in here. First of all, I decided to leave the wall on the left side of the vanity because it would be a huge pain to fix the ceiling (it’s also connected to a soffit). That was a dumb decision. It would have been totally worth it to open up this space and provide more light.
Learning as we go!
The gold glitter shell vanity top is still a tough subject. We have a limited budget for this bathroom and are still weighing our options.
Stupid mistake number two in the master bath was painting the vanity cabinets a tad darker shade of blue/green. It ended up looking the exact same color as the wall, which didn’t necessarily look bad, it was just not what I was going for at all. I learned that crisp, airy spaces require some contrast. So I REPAINTED THE ENTIRE VANITY WHITE. I am a crazy person.
Here’s the before color and painting on a coat of white.
The doors aren’t on yet, but I have NO REGRETS about spending the extra time to get it done….even though it was extremely annoying and I wanted to punch myself.
The shower floor is laid, and we’re working to finish the walls! So thrilled with the way this is looking.
Here’s what the bathroom used to look like:
The biggest surprise we’ve come across is the rotten windows in our living room. This set us back quite a bit in the beginning of our reno, but we are thrilled that the windows are finally fixed! Here’s the extent of what that looked like…
All the rot was gutted and replaced with solid wood and siding. I couldn’t believe how exact the exterior paint match I got at Sherwin Williams was (wish I had a pic, but it’s 10:30pm lol).
We found time to celebrate Trent’s birthday this weekend. He is the most fun person to buy gifts for ever. It’s hard to buy a “bad” gift when everything is exciting.
Happy 28th, Trent!
